My priorities

My priorities

An ANC commissioner has two important jobs: advising the City on key local issues; and helping residents navigate city services. If you live in 1B12, I'll be your advocate in both situations.

Everything I do is about strengthening our community. That means listening to neighbors, considering all views, and being very clear about any decisions I make. We may not always agree, but you'll always understand the reasoning behind my position.

With that said, here are some of my priorities as your Commissioner. This list will grow through November, and beyond. Click the link to learn more details.

Responses to candidate questionnaires

I’ve recently completed two candidate questionnaires, which will help you understand what I’m thinking about key neighborhood and city issues. Take a look:

  • The Greater Greater Washington ANC Voter Guide. Enter your address to see my answers. (Or head to my page, where I’ve posted them.)
  • The League of Women’s Vote 411 initiative. Click on “ANC1B12 Commissioner” to see my answers.

Vision Zero

We need to make our streets safer, in 1B12 and all around the city. As Commissioner, I’ll push for policies that actually address causes of deaths on the road. That means some hard choices. We should re-evaluate how we allocate street space, especially in busy corridors like U Street and 14th Street, and near schools and senior centers.

Increase transparency and engagement

1B has made admirable efforts to increase transparency and engagement. I’m going even further, leveraging my experience increasing awareness and engagement at startups. As Commissioner, I’ll propose creating a working group focused on increasing attendance at meetings. And I’ll make sure I’m personally available in a variety of ways.

Provide responsive constituent services

In business, I learned that rapid response to customer issues is one of a leader’s most important tasks. Good customer service isn’t too different from constituent service. You’ll have multiple ways to get in touch with me. If I can’t immediately address an issue, I’ll give you a timeline — and stick to it.

Promote development that strengthens our community

In 1B12, there are several large development projects on the horizon, particularly at the Reeves Center and the DPR lot at 14th and S. I’ll proactively approach these issues, and make sure our community is involved every step of the way.

Clean up our residential and commercial areas

There’s lots of trash all over 1B12. As a vibrant destination for entertainment and nightlife, we have more than most other neighborhoods. Which means we should make sure we are leading the city in waste management.
