Dan Winston

Dan Winston is an entrepreneur, civic leader, and transportation expert living in Dupont Circle in DC. Whether in politics or in business, Dan tries to help enable strong communities.

From January 2019 and to December 2020, Dan served as as Commissioner in ANC1B Single Member District 12. He chaired ANC 1B’s Transportation Committee, co-chaired the Zoning, Preservation and Development Committee, chaired the Comprehensive Plan Task Force, and authored numerous resolutions and letters. In the private sector, Dan has led teams and built businesses that helped make communities stronger. He was an executive at a MetroAccess operation, co-founded a DC ride-sharing startup, and led all North American markets for a scooter company. He’s worked with Metro, the DC Government, and countless community organizations throughout the city. Currently, he’s founder and CEO of BalancedWork – a DC-based business using AI and social science to help hybrid teams make better decisions about in-person collaboration.

Dan sometimes tweets, sometimes about DC civic issues, and often about sandwiches. Even though he’s no longer an ANC Commissioner, he figured it would be easy enough to keep this website up to date.

ANC Commissioners are the voice of residents on the issues that impact life in DC. They consider issues relating to transportation, sanitation, development, public safety, zoning, and more. ANC Commissioners also function as an informal liaison to the DC government, helping residents access city services. Dan serves as one of the Commissioners on Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1B.

Dan represented Single Member District 1B12. It’s an incredible slice of DC. There are historic homes, churches and community centers, along with vibrant restaurants and nightlife along U Street and 14th Street.

As of 2021, Dan’s friend Sabel Harris is Commissioner in 1B12.
